Ivory and Horn Burning

105 tons of Elephant Ivory and 1.35 tons of Rhino Horn were lit up on the 30th of April 2016, at the Nairobi National Park, as a way of saying NO to Ivory trade. This was spearheaded by Robin Hollister, a pyrotechnic expert, who was also responsible for setting ablaze 2 tons of Elephant Ivory in 1998, during former president Daniel Arap Moi’s era.

The event saw H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Gabon – Ali Bongo Ondimba, the U.S Ambassador to Kenya – Bob Godec, Wildlife Conservationist, Dr. Paula Kahumbu and other notable officials attend as a way of showing support against the inhumane act.

The Ivory and Horn were expected to completely burn after a duration of two weeks.
